Let the fun begin

Today I made the decision to read all the South Carolina Book Award nominees for 2008-2009. I always love a challenge, and I want to be current when I get a position in a school library or English class. This way, I'll have a record of everything I read for the rest of the summer, and I'll be able to rate the books as I go.

I was delighted to find that my local library branch has put stickers on the award nominees. I was able to browse and checked out the first seven that caught my eye. Next week I'll have to get my lists out and start searching in the catalog. I presume I'll have to have some books saved and some ordered from the main library, but for now I've got a good number to begin with.

I'm going to give myself two days for each book and entry on the blog. That way I won't be quite finished by the start of school, but I'll have a good start. I've got 100 pages read of the first book and tomorrow I should be able to report on it. I think I'll be doing quick summaries and then a rating from 1-5 so any of my readers will know whether it's worth their while to track down the book.

Well...off to finish my first book about a kid who gets drunk, destroys his neighbors yard, and is doing 100 hours of community service in an old folk's home.
